YOU ARE THE FILMMAKER: IFF Prague – Febiofest has opened a call for submissions for its amateur short film competition
The IFF Prague – Febiofest team invites all film enthusiasts to join in an attractive challenge: the 28th edition of Febiofest will again feature an amateur short film competition under the title YOU ARE THE FILMMAKER. This year’s theme is MY CITY.
Are there issues in your town or community that you see as urgent and deserving of attention? Give it a shot – try capturing them in a short film or video (1-5 minutes of runtime)! Winners will receive a monetary award, as well as a chance to see their piece screened at a prestigious festival. The deadline for submissions has been set for 31 March 2021. Applications and submissions are accepted through this online form on the festival’s website.
The competition is open in two categories: individuals (and groups), and student teams (primary and secondary schools). The theme – MY CITY – should be approached in the form of a short documentary, report, or survey. The winners will be selected by a jury of experts such as Jan Faltus, who runs the popular Instagram account Lepší město (Better City), or the internet duo Janek Rubeš and Honza Mikulka, who are behind the legendary project Honest Guide. The first, second and third place winners will split a total of CZK 95,000 and the winning films will be screened as part of the IFF Prague – Febiofest’s official programme.
“In this day and age, it’s no surprise that one can change the space around them with the help of a film. Whether you love your town or hate it, give it some of your creative time – you can bring the place you know best closer to others, inspire others through your unique vision, and even bring about the change it needs,” says Honza Mikulka from Honest Guide.
The 28th edition of Prague International Film Festival – Febiofest will take place 29 April – 7 May 2021, and renditions of the festival in other Czech cities will follow afterwards, as in previous years. Around 100 films will be shown, representing a selection of the best, most interesting and inspiring cinema from both domestic and international productions. The amateur short film section YOU ARE THE FILMMAKER is one of four competitions featured in the festival.
