Dr Irena Eris Begins Partnership With The European Film Awards
Dr Irena Eris, a renowned Polish brand of high-quality skincare and make-up cosmetics, has become a partner of the European Film Awards this year. The list of films nominated in 2023 is a great triumph for Polish cinematography – Polish productions and co-productions have a chance for as many as nine statuettes in key categories. The partnership with the European Film Awards is another example of Dr Irena Eris’ engagement in the development of culture and ambitious cinema.
The European Film Awards are one of the most important prizes for world cinema. Established in 1988 by the European Film Academy, this awards ceremony is described as the greatest festival of European cinema and is often compared to the American Oscars. They reward European producers, directors and actors in 19 categories, including the most important one – for the Best Film.
Success of Polish creators
The European Film Awards 2023 are a great triumph for Polish cinema, with nine nominations for Polish productions and co-productions. This year’s front runner has already been hailed as a British-Polish film directed by Jonathan Glazer, titled “The Zone of interest”, with Ewa Puszczynska as the Polish producer. The Dr Irena Eris brand was also involved in the production of this movie. “The Zone of Interest” has already won awards in 2023, i.a. Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. Inspired by the 2014 novel by Martin Amis, the movie tells the story about the family of an Auschwitz commandant living on the other side of the camp wall. At the European Film Awards, the production is likely to win as many as five statuettes: for Best Film, Directing, Screenplay, Actress and Actor.
Also, a movie by Agnieszka Holland, titled “The Green Border”, has more than one award opportunity, as it is nominated in three categories: Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenwriter. The Danish-Polish-French film, “Apolonia, Apolonia”, directed by Lea Glob, which was produced on the Polish side by Malgorzata Staron, will compete for the award for Best Documentary.
Patron of beauty and creativity
The partnership with the European Film Awards is another example of deep commitment from Dr Irena Eris to the development of Polish and international cinema. This year, once again, the brand was a strategic partner of the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, as well as a partner of the Polish premieres at the mBank New Horizons International Film Festival.
“We are extremely proud that now the European Film Awards are joining the list of prestigious initiatives that we support to promote ambitious artists. We are delighted to be a part of this event, especially as the upcoming edition promises to be exceptionally lucky for Polish productions,” says Joanna Lodygowska, the Head of Communication at Dr Irena Eris. “Through our commitment to Polish and international cinema and our support for film culture, we want to contribute to the further promotion of values such as top quality, creativity and beauty,” adds Joanna Lodygowska.
As a partner of the European Film Awards, Dr Irena Eris will invite all guests to the Beauty Area at the Festival site. There, experienced make-up artists will take care of the stunning image of the artists before the gala awards ceremony.
Support for outstanding creators
Dr Irena Eris also actively supports outstanding Polish productions and co-productions. These include “The Silent Twins”, a film by Agnieszka Smoczynska, presented at the 75th Cannes Film Festival and awarded at the Gdynia Festival, as well as “The Zone of Interest”, which has already won the Grand Prix at Cannes and is now up for as many as five statuettes at the European Film Awards. The brand was also involved in the production of “Kobieta z…”, directed by Małgorzata Szumowska and Michal Englert, presented at the Venice Film Festival, as well as in the production of “Illusion” by Marta Minorowicz. Due to the views of Agata Buzek, who plays the leading role in the film, the vegan composition of the cosmetics used on set was confirmed by the Dr Irena Eris Centre for Science and Research.
“Each year, we witness the growing international recognition of Polish cinematography. This is an extremely important moment for Polish cinema, the talent and innovation of which are increasingly recognised around the world,” concludes Joanna Lodygowska. Among Polish filmmakers in recent years, the European Film Awards have been awarded to, i.a. Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman for the Polish-British animation “Loving Vincent”, Anna Zamecka for the documentary “Communion”, or Pawel Pawlikowski for “Ida” and “Cold War.” The winners of this year’s edition will be announced on 9 December 2023 during the final ceremony.
